Can non-musicians have a musical conversation? I hope so. A while back, I decided to try.
In late October 2009, I picked up a mandolin for the first time to see what I could make of it. It seemed like a good idea. Such a delicious, full sound from such a small instrument. Well, not the way I play it, but give me time.
While playing mandolin, however incompetently, all these half-remembered tunes flooded my mind, and spurred me to find out more, documenting chords, lyrics, and back-stories. As I sang with friends and family, they shared with me remnants of tunes knocking around in their heads, some learned in early life and never revisited.
This blog is a mix of songs recovered from old friends, some of them embellished with chords, notes, and stories. Do you have an old tune to offer? Let me know, and maybe I'll do a little digging.
